Structured, drafted, reviewed, and negotiated all cross-platform Marketing/Content/Sponsorship Agreements for the Paley Center including with Citi, Yahoo, Hulu and Verizon Wireless.

One of the lead negotiators of the NFL’s domestic and international sponsorship business, including negotiating agreements with multiple Fortune 500 companies such as Anheuser Busch, Motorola, Visa and Coors.

CONTENT DEVELOPMENT, ACQUISITION AND DISTRIBUTION

Negotiated (12) prime-time Paley branded specials on NBC, CBS and Fox including negotiating agreements with the networks, production companies and on-camera and above the line talent and guilds.

Oversaw all legal and business affairs for twelve (12) episodes of the series for Sundance TV that was internationally distributed through Passion Distribution.

Oversaw the launch of PaleyTV, a direct to consumer streaming service, including collaborating with the technology, marketing, creative, and social media teams and negotiating a white-label agreement with Vimeo.

Secured releases and $2.7MM of royalties from over 100 non-renewed licensees as part of providing effective counsel related to the restructuring of the NFL licensing paradigm, including structuring the e-commerce policies.

David Weinberg is a legal and business affairs executive with extensive domestic and international experience in commercial transactions, licensing, event operations and intellectual property matters. He is a strategic leader that drives revenue and growth while providing risk and brand management. David currently serves as an advisor and general counsel for several start-up organizations as well as a consultant for leading sports and entertainment brands.
David has almost 30 years of experience primarily as an in-house counsel in the sports and entertainment industries. He has worked with The Paley Center for Media, the National Football League (NFL) and Major League Soccer (MLS) and on events such as the Super Bowl, F.I.F.A.’s World Cup and the America’s Cup.
David also served as an Adjunct Professor for the Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management at NYU where he taught Legal Issues in Sports.
He began his career at World Cup USA 1994, Inc., the organizing committee for the 1994 World Cup. Thereafter, he served as an associate with the Law Firm of Koltetsky, Mancini and Feldman in Los Angles as a litigator on construction defect and insurance defense matters.
After Koletsky, he transitioned to MLS where he helped launch the new league. As Legal Counsel during the league’s initial four years, David was responsible for all aspects of the league’s daily operations, including drafting and negotiating broadcast, sponsorship, new media, licensing, stadium, and other ancillary agreements. He also developed, implemented, and enforced league policies and monitored the domestic and international registration of MLS intellectual property.
Following MLS, David spent 13 years with the NFL. As the lead attorney for the NFL’s Events Department, David provided counsel to the International Steering and Super Bowl Bid Committees and handled all legal work for the Super Bowl and NFL International Games. For the NFL’s Consumer Product and Sponsorship Departments, he successfully negotiated and drafted global licensing and sponsorship agreements with many Fortune 500 companies. David also served as a Compliance Officer for the NFL.
David also oversaw Business & Legal Affairs for The Paley Center for Media, including providing strategic planning for multiple departments at Paley. At Paley, he led negotiations for distribution of Paley content across multiple linear and digital platforms, analyzing and advising on intellectual property matters and clearances and negotiating and drafting all agreements related to annual Paley Events.
David received his J.D. from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles and a BBA in Finance from the Red McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas – Austin.
